The Season is Approaching

I am quite aware of my tendency to start with the creative task. Way before the necessary. I am not sure this is a common characteristic of a successful flower farmer. But I will take the risk. Picking up the wood burning tool to create flower signs is just too much fun!

On a more important note, I am finally back to announce that the CSA flower season is just around the corner! Many of you are probably wondering when this might be since flowers are bursting forth just about everywhere. It looks like the first pick-up will be the first, or second week of June, but I will keep you updated as the weeks pass. There will again be 2 primary pick up locations at the Bull City Cool Food Hub in Durham and at Carolina Core in Carrboro. Please check out the CSA details on my blog for more information and payment options.

Many of you have asked how the season is going so far. I am so grateful for your concern, curiosity, and support. THANK YOU! The short answer is that the flower season did start off with some rough patches. Mark discovered some happy deer ate his new beds of fall planted strawberries, along with some of my fall planted seedlings. I discovered that a couple rows of early Spring flowers were accidentally tilled under. Then in a rush to get seeds in the ground before a thunderstorm, I forgot to gently cover the seeds with straw, one way to protect them from washing away. Well, it seems they washed away.

But believe it, or not -  I could not be more excited and feel grateful for what is in the ground and growing beautifully!  I love the rhythmic practice of planting, nurturing, watering, watching, waiting, and wondering. Until finally, one morning I'm surprised to discover the smallest little green thing bursting from the soil towards the sun. It produces in me still a giddy feeling.

Thank you to everyone for your support! Very soon you will have a weekly bouquet to grace your home and table.
