Natural Dye Workshop
Natural Dye Workshop
In this workshop, we will explore the process of natural dyeing on plant fibers. We will work with locally grown dye plants from the farm to create a range of colors on cotton and linen. This is a sustainable practice that is perfect for quilters, knitters, weavers, garment makers and anyone interested in deepening their relationship with the natural world through craft. Throughout the three hours together we will dive into how to prepare your fabric for natural dye, extract color from plants and cure your fiber for a colorfast life. After you sign up you will receive an email with what to bring for the workshop. Join us for a good time out at Little Sparrow Farm as we experiment with natural dyes!
What to bring and what to expect:
I will provide three textiles to dye with–one canvas tote bag or socks and two tea towels. You will have lots of options for how you want to dye your items. Please wear clothes you are okay with getting messy. You are allowed to bring two or three items from home that are 100% cotton or linen to prepare for the dye pots. Nothing bigger than a garment. You will also receive a booklet to translate what you learned in the workshop to your home. Looking forward to practicing the art of natural dyes with you!
